Afterschool Program

The Afterschool program is the primary program at the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County.  Open from 2:30 - 6:30 p.m., elementary and middle school children are picked up from area schools and brought to the Club for a variety of activities.  Click on the 2010-2011 parent guide for important information about this year's program, or read below for a description of our specialized programs within the Afterschool Program.

Our members have many different options in the various activity rooms within the Club's Afterschool program.  These activity rooms include:  Learning Center, Techology Center, three full Gyms, Middle School Room, Game Room, Life Skills Room, Snack Room, Performing Arts Room, and Arts & Crafts Room.

As a part of the Afterschool program, the Club offers several specialized programs so that young people can continue to learn after they leave school.  Here is a list of the programs currently offered by the Club.
 
Power Hour sessions are a more intense approach to helping those in need of homework assistance.  Students will be rewarded for attending and completing homework as assigned in school.  Sessions are held daily in the Club's Learning Center.  Students from each school have a designated "switch-time" that they are able to participate in.
SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) is geared towards teaching social and life skills.  There are several components that are designed for specific age and gender groups.  Programs currently offered include:  SMART Kids, Start SMART, Stay SMART, and Street SMART.
Triple Play is a three component program that emphasizes eating smart and maintaining physical fitness to improve the overall well-being of Club members.  Healthy Habits is the mind component of this program and consists of healthy food choices including the power of choice, calories, vitamins and minerals, the food pyramid, and appropriate portion size.
Chartered by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, this program is middle school service club is designed to include fellowship activities such as field trips, picnics, and games, as well as service activities performed mostly for youth at the Club.  Torch Club meets every Monday in the Middle School Room.
